Late Medieval Fire Steel

Hand-forged Fire Steel (Strike-a-light, flint striker) after an original find from England (13th/14th centuries).

This late medieval fire steel features two metal hoops to protect the fingers and iprove the grip.

With this striker, a piece of flint-stone, and some dry tinder (straw, wood shavings, reed mace seed, tinder fungus, charred linen, or the like), all it takes is a little practice and a few strikes to start a fire the medieval way.

This reproduction is hand-forged from high carbon-steel. A little rust is normal and can be removed by regular use, or with some steel-wool.
