By working closely with several messer manuscripts, Learning Messerfechten: The Augsburg Messer Tradition is an arrangement and compilation of the sources into a comprehensive system of four core technique sets. The techniques of the Schlechten Versatzung, the Verkerter Handt, the Gewappnet Hant, and the Mitelhaw, are each presented here, including the basic versions and their variations, as well as follow-ups into wrestling.

With over 100 illustrations, this book also offers visual support through many key techniques and movements. Additional chapters on sumptuary laws, fashion, and civic duty give further context and show the importance of the messer during this period of history.

About the Author
Lucien Lee is a martial artist, instructor, and researcher who specialises in medieval European martial arts. He has a particular interest and focus on the messer traditions of the 15th and early 16th centuries. His work combines analysis with hands-on application, drawing from original manuscripts to develop clean and functional interpretations for modern study.
He established Bastion in Singapore in 2017 and serves as its Principal Instructor. The school teaches the German tradition, with its foundation rooted in the practice of the messer. Beyond the classroom, he continues to work with local communities and charities, fostering strong connections through medieval martial arts education and outreach.
