Bone Needle flat

Large, flat needle made of animal bone for needlebinding.

This sturdy needle made of animal bone is primarily used for needlebinding. It differs from modern knitting needles in that it has a hole for threading. Unlike modern sewing needles, it is also much wider in circumference, and the tip of the needlebinding needle is blunt, preventing accidental piercing of the wool yarn.

This bone needle can also be used as a large sewing needle, but only for knitted items with wide stitches or stretchy threads, as the blunt tip will otherwise prevent it from penetrating the material and leaving holes in the fabric due to the width of the large sewing needle.
